sorry to be so self-indugent--several of these latest works have come from my visit to my sister's and my neice's wedding

We Hold Each Other’s Histories

What an honor to have had this time with you,

My brother and my sisters of childhood.

For it is we who hold each other’s histories,

Integral parts of the moments that shaped our beings,

It is we who know each other best.

There are things that have meaning to us,

Conversations we can have,

That others just don’t understand,

Weather child, or spouse or any other kin.

As I see each and every one of you,

And remember moments past,

Important parts of who I am,

Have you imbedded within.

It is usually for a wedding or (sad) but a funeral that a family come together and when they do it is nice that they can reminise about years gone by and yes it is something others have no clue about. Another great write Karen, thank you for sharing.

I have one sister, who left Connecticut and has lived in Florida for the past twenty years. We see each other once a year for a few weeks, and we try to spend every moment together...talking about when we were growing up, and things in our present life, giggling like kids sometimes over dinner and a few margaritas. Although I miss her terribly, our time together is so special, and I have it to look forward to each year.

I think about these feelings all the time. I have a sister who lives in another state and a brother I hardly see. I LOVE when my brothers and sister and I are together--every couple years or so. It's like you say, it's we brothers and sisters who can have conversations like you say, that no one else may understand. While I've been thinking about this so much lately, with all the "family stuff", you at least wrote it down in an expressive way to share with so many others who can relate.
