On Second Thought

We love “catch phrases”,

They sound so good and wise.

But sometimes when given second thought,

The wise words just don’t ring so true .

Like, “Don’t sweat the small stuff, and its all small.”

I beg to differ on this-for if the things in life that truly matter,

Are all treated as insignificant and trite,

Then no one will care about or rise to action,

To be the change that will better our world.

Then the phrase, “Don’t look back”,

Seems sage and good but on second glance,

I know my past has value and worth,

And in looking back I surely find,

Warmth and happy and sad and truth,

In the learning that has come along the way.

And folks sure love to throw this one around,

That happiness is not found in wealth.

But let me tell you a simple truth,

As one who has experienced poverty,

That having enough wealth,

Surely makes for less stress and strife on life’s journey.

And here is one, I do truly love,

And I do so love wise quotes,

“If you want to see a miracle, be the miracle”

Now that makes sense to me!
