i am home but torn-it is hard to be away from home, hard to be away from my sister

My Desire

My desire is to be her hero,
To slay the demons of this terrible disease,
To give her wings to fly again,
immersed in the life she loves.

I want to fix all that is broken,
Like a bandaid on a skinned up knee,
Of her little three-year-old self,
When we were both so young.

I want to be her champion,
Fight her battles and prove her right,
To speak profoundly with great wisdom,
So that she will continue to fight.

But alas I remain not a champion, or fixer, or hero,
As I wait with not so much patience,
Like a cold pat of butter on a colder piece of toast,
For the miracles of time, and medicine and belief,
To take hold and make her well.

It is very hard to see someone that you love suffer and we want to ease their pain but can't. I am sure that just being there for her means a lot to her. God Bless.

Karen...life can be a harsh reality, and though one can reach apoint of helplessness where we seem unable to conquer the demons and disease that takes its hold on our loved ones, it is the closeness of family and the spiritual strength of just being there to support and love with caring and compassion. You are a chapion of heart and soul, you are the hero your sister needs and that my friend is the most gracious gift that I see.

May God touch you both with love and peave...

We are often helpless in the face of Life's serious problems, but I am sure your very presence is giving your ailing sister a lot of comfort. Best wishes for you both!

it is of course very true that the twin gifts and sciences of time and medicine DO heal... but so too do the equally important gifts of faith and unstinting support and encouragement. You are everything to your sister right now and she is well aware of all that you still would be - but everyone grows a little weary and just needs a spot of refreshment in order to be able to carry on. Be kind to yourself - that is perhaps the most needful thing at the moment, so that you can regroup and continue until this battle is surely won. But not easy, I know, to be the one having to look on... at such times we so wish it was US who was the one in need: then perhaps we wouldn't hurt so much. Brave and challenging write, Karen. Love and prayers always. Kate xx

Very touching Karen. There is much to learn in situations like this. I do not know anyone that is not struggling in one way or another now. Seems everyone I talk to, or communicate with online, is faced with challenges that are testing their mettle. I have always been amazed at how ingrained it is (in most people) to reach out when someone falls or needs help. I pray that you will remain strong, focused, and filled with love for your sister, and that she will find a full and absolute recovery.
Blessings ...
Richard

The only think I ever done for my sister was to take her from an abusive home to a full of love and care one, I guess i wish for her to consider me a hero.
Just wishing all of the above you wrote I think that's no doubt about, you are her hero!

This is although sad, very touching and moving and it made me feel that I hope if anything like this happened to me I would have someone like you there in my ring...even if only from afar. I now suggest to you (after reading your book), that you make a special collection of poems about just you and her and all the good things you shared from childhood...a gift she would I am sure treasure.

Your love for your sister if it were medicine she would be cured in a moment. Pray to God to spare her but in the end let it be his will that prevails. Miracles do happen.

Proclaiming a sister's love in sickness is more honorable than anything in this world...the will to survive is so much stronger when there is compassion and love, Karen...your hard life has built you with such strength and caring you should be proud of...your kind and compassionate heart holding your sister's hand should be blown into glass and preserved for "My Desire"...
