Consume and Waste

We eat and drink and flush,
Consume like vultures,
Feeding on the flesh of a planet,
Ways of life and a people,
Who appear alive but are truly dead.

They died when they lost hope,
Or lost sight of what once was a dream.
They move about and take up space,
They use and dispose,
But little else can be said.

Pray, let me not become as these,
Let me live in gratitude and joy,
Let me strive to be better,
To add good to this life,
Let me live, alive and vibrant,
contributing more than I consume.

Well said! Consumers and producers, and if we feel we're getting to be stuffers, crammers and gobblers and nothing else, we should draw back from the gluttonous feast and go jogging, go to church or do some community volunteer work.

Every so often, we need to do things for other people that need the help.

Once I read a parable about a philosopher that was eating plucked grass,
saying, "Oh! I am so poor that I am reduced to eat grass" and hearing someone walking back him he saw a man eating the grass roots he had discarded.

There are many sad, lonely, miserable human beings in this world for any number of reasons. With all the job layoffs of late, the population of those with lost hope are multiplying. Let us pray for them and pray for ourselves that we might never experience what they have and will experience.
