Looking Out Windows

They spend their time watching and listening,

Looking out windows or over closed gates,

For us to come out, or come home, or come in,

To feed them, or pet them, or spend time in their presence.

They cannot speak of their feelings, physical or any other,

They have to take whatever comes their way,

Be it kindness, compassion, companionship or not.

They live at the mercy of the humans who own them.

We would do well to consider these creatures,

Who we have taken in to be our possessions,

Think about how they spend each hour that ticks by,

As we hustle and bustle through our ever busy days,

Taking care of our own needs and wants,

When these, our animal friends cannot.

Very nicely stated and from a horse woman such as yourself they carry so much credibility and compassion. All too often we hear of these proud hearted animals being misused and mistreated and people shake their heads and seem to just accept it. I think these crimes should be treated the same as crimes against adults in the same care of the guardians.

Amen. I'll bet you don't "own" your friends. I'm guessing they own you. Sweet poem. Patrick

love your reminder from the horses view...I often wonder what they are thinking when I see them just standing in stables or pastures...I cherish knowing some are very pampered and well loved and holding that image is powerful

Powerful, thought provoking reminder to take care of those who can bring us so much joy - who love unconditionally - they don't ask for much in return. Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Well said! There is far too much animal abuse happening around us, some of it unwitting ... most of it not.
