What did I see in you…?
Half dead, half joking
You stumbled through my life again
And out exit stage right
With little miss- what was her name?
Not that it matters I saw in that transaction
The same business you did with me
When we were once an item
You were an item on a lot of shelves
Mass merchandising
So pause with me now
Before I ever become just an object
Set coyly to bandy on your shelf
Let me write all I once was
Lest I become as nothing
My words soft and then silent
Fading from your memory
Like all the creamy legs you’ve parted
As all the so called loves here
And now, so many departed dalliances
Half dead, half joking I could promise you a life
In a far off place, in other contexts
But how easily you forget
You left and I remained
What I wanted in the end was
Only the memory of you, untarnished (And it’s far too late for that).
