Over the Road Trucker
I travel the roads of America
Hauling food, goods and wares
I pass by beautiful scenery
That helps me forget my cares
I have a family at home
That misses me a lot
Or maybe they’ve gone on with life
And it’s me they’ve forgot
I drive mile after mile
And if pickups are scheduled late
I may not be able to see my family
And I know now they won’t wait
So I drive the ribbons of highways
Making a living, earning a dime
I hope to be home Thanksgiving
And pray I make Christmas in time
Broken promises and missed recitals
I’ve alienated those I love the most
I squandered my family time
So now I drive away lost
I think I remember this one. When I drove forklift, I encountered many drivers who held this type of loneliness. Exceptional work capturing that sentiment!
