One of my beloved dogs....

Milly, my chocolate lab,

Is so good natured, she thinks Simon, my beagle, is not bad.

Without her Simon would never behave

She runs interference when Simon starts digging a grave.

With a smile and wag of her tail

She calmly welcomes me home without travail.

She nudges me into better moods

Her gentleness always seems to soothe

She’s helped me keep Simon alive

And with her around I seem to thrive

I can always rely on her to be in her place

Right by my side with a lick to my face

Liz,

Pets are wonderful for the soul. They never let you down like people tend to. Love the rhyme in this piece. A great read with lots of truth! Hugs to you:)

Enjoyed, I too am an animal lover and the owner of a house dog, she is a rat terrior and quite the character. We have many beagles, as my husband finds great pleasure taking them and letting them run in the open fields to run rabbits. We also have chickens, don't even ask how many! And we also raise and sell boer goats, and cats by the loads roam our farm...but I wouldn't have any other way myself. Enjoyed your write!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Cute poem, Elizabeth. I have a black lab, myself. There are no kinder, gentler souls than those of Labrador retrievers.

Elizabeth,
I can tell you really like your pets and savor their presence with you. I, too, enjoy the presence of my new kitty I name Mandi. She's really been great company--so far--although I wear the badge of courage in the form of claw marks on my legs!! Would have it any other way. Loved your poem!
