Birthdays
Birthdays were once the biggest deal, A party for sure, with gifts and cake, Laughs and spanks, how good we’d feel, How many years do the candles make?
But some birthdays don’t work out, With frenzied scheduling these days, It’s not something to fret and pout, Or consider anyone as castaways.
The gravitational pull is still strong, But wider orbits, our busy lives, We circle, but as birthdays come along, For some it’s fall when spring arrives.
But March 19, ‘04 was special date, Susan’s day, I would call tonight, I was writing, lost in character’s fate, When my dogs erupted in noisy fright.
Susan stood grinning at the front door, She’d come for miles to see her Dad, Warmest hugs, two spirits soar, “Happy Birthday, you came, so glad!”
