Best Of John Denver

John Denver's music doesn't play as often in some quarters as it once did -- and we miss the thrill of his trill...

Soft words ride melodious strings,
Sunshine to my heart, baritone trills,
To regal Rockies strums and sings,
Echoes to granite, yodels to rills.

Cowboy at times wanted to be,
Under the wild Montana skies,
But Colorado would rather see,
Whole outdoors his favorite size.

Found himself in a wrenching trap,
Loved his music, it kept him sane,
His fans would please, all over map,
Fly away, leave on a jet plane.

Silken smooth his melody flows,
Promises of poems and prayers,
Tales of Darcy Farrow’s sorrows,
Of high Calypso’s eco-cares,

Matthew, hero in his eye,
Gold, gold, was windy wheat field,
Blue, blue, Kansas summer sky,
Love, just life’s essence to wield.

When sorry for the way things are,
Rustic country roads lead back home,
Happy to leave city afar,
‘Til on jet plane again must roam.

A storm across his valley rolled,
Sweet baritone trill, how still now lies,
Left deepest loss for us to hold,
Pulled down from our blue, blue skies.

To his timeless beauty still listen,
CD notes clarion clear,
But eyes always tear and glisten,
When John’s sweet voice we hear.

have always heard the name
and knew him to be a music icon
but it wasn't until the movie "Final Destination"
that his music and name matched up
(sad, but true)
enjoyed your piece dedicated to a music icon!!!

'Dark and dusty, painted on the sky, misty tastes the moonshine, teardrop in my eye.' I will never forget West Virginia--or John.

Oh, Leland, dear, dear Leland... Sigh, I first knew him when he replaced Chad Mitchell in the trio (silly me, I resented him, for I LOVE Chad's singing) BUT... from his first song to his last, I have listened, wept, giggled and marveled at the poetry of his music and the nearly aching beauty of his voice. The sincerity in his words never fails to touch me, even as I hear a song for the millionth time.

To this day, I cannot listen to Darcy Farrow without weeping. For Baby/For Bobbie is another special one.

For you to write and post this, I feel such a kinship. What a lovely, lovely passion to have in common with you, my wonderful friend. katy xox.

Leland what a fantastic tribute to one of my all time favorites.
I just saw a rerun recently on pbs of his Alask show. To
have left so young, at least he was flying, which he loved to do.
He was the best in many ways, really loved the environment.
He is missed!

love,eileen

Leland,

O, the memories you bring back! John Denver was always one of my very favorite singers--his voice would send chills up and down my spine. I love all of his music, but my absolute favorite is "Whalebones and Crosses." *I drove Karen BATS with that song--I wore that song OUT, playing it over and over and over and over...LOL* Been looking for another copy, preferably on C.D...can't find it ANYWHERE!!!!!!! I'd love to have it again...

An excellent write--thank you for the Rocky Mountain High!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :)

Hey L, I was just sitting here thinking of something more exciting to do than writing. Anyway you poemed yours in this nice tribute to a great artist. Well I guess I'll cut my tosses and do something else relaxing. I could really fill that poet board up today. Right now i'm watching something on tv about the ball eagles, pretty interesting. Hey how are you and your bears doing? G
