Flocks of small sand pipers
flit scamper dip
their long bills in wet sand
their tiny black
feet leave prints--
at once they rise in flight
they scan high surf that thunders in.
Their black bead eyes peer
into the rolling salt water then
wings folded, one plummets into a wave rises with one small fry in its black beak.
Sandpipers are certainly amazing to watch as they ply their trade along the beach.
