I have recently come to know a few people that are so competitive, they are aging much earlier than normal. They compete for everything, including things like love, that should come for free...Unfortunately it's taking its toll--for one, at the ripe old age of 29, her hair is peppered with gray, and her stress level is off the charts! As their life is now demonstrating, to win at all costs can be a dangerous game, particularly when those you've hurt gain the power to retailiate. Fending off enemies can be a full time job.
Innocent offense! I must respond Else I will appear weak And lose the game. I am high energy! Don't you see how I can outlast the others By any means needed? I will never fail! Failure means loss. Even if I lose I'll admit to it only Momentarily, if at all. Indeed, my life is spent Assuring that I can be Better than the rest ALL of the time... It takes its toll. But I have weaved This legacy tragic-- Ticked off too many people... It's too late to end it graciously. I am tormented by thoughts that Those I conquered seek revenge; My prison is real, And full of torment. It's a neurotic way to live Full of anxiety, terror and Wretched misery because I'm in too deep and Afraid to reap what I've sown... My sober realization that Safe passage thru this life Is no longer guaranteed For me. Repentance would only be A ceremonial formality, I think-- The truth of it is, Escape is no longer an option.

Decreasing circles....
When my ex took all I had from birth. It is as dung, as St Paul say's.
We can live for a career or a vocational calling.. the latter never retires or tires..

Good lesson to us all Wendi. You have to stop and smell a pot of roses once in awhile. People get tired of those who always have to be one better. You have expressed it well

Life is not worth living when one always needs to keep oneself on top of others and is afraid to fall. Too much competitions spoil the fun.

Life has its ups and downs, when down, just get up once again, and enjoy that moment of being up once again.

A very realistic poem. There are people who are living in competitions all the time.
