Metamorph

I wrote this after watching an episode of Star Trek The Next Generation. I believe the episode is called "Metamorph" and it's about a woman who can become the perfect mate for any man, until she bonds (takes on the personality traits of) with one person. Doesn’t that sound like most women? Anyway, in this case, she chose to bond with Captain Picard, but to marry the man who had been chosen for her. Picard gave her away at the wedding.

Since I was removed from stasis
My attraction's at its peak
I just can't walk among you--
Your hormones might spring a leak!

For I am of species metamorph
A being that becomes what you wish
Until I bond with my chosen
I can be any man's dish!

But it's you I find interesting Picard
Quite a compliment you have received
For when we find you interesting
A plateau has been achieved.

Even though I've been bred from birth
To bond with another, soon to meet
It’s you I've chosen, Captain
I've seen no other as sweet

But do not worry, please give me away
To my pre-ordained mate intended
Just know it's you I would've chosen
If time and space had been different.

I remember that episode, Wendi and it always bugged me that this gorgeous "metamorph" was required to marry that ugly old alien instead of someone more suitable. I like the feel of this poem and it well expresses the tugging at the heart over a love that would never be. I really enjoyed reading this!

Ah isn't this like a case of art imitating life or vice versa, we often end up at the alter with the one we are really attracrted to but who is untouchable for one reason or another sitting in the wings watching. We may pick the closest clone we can find and just go with the flow but usually it never works. INteresting write here Wendi.

Very interesting poem and perspective, Wendi. Well done. Too bad men don't morph to us ...
Love,
CJ
