Gonna Keep On Walking
I love to go out walking
Every day in mid-afternoon
Whether its summer or winter
Or the changing seasons’ tune.
I go down a long dirt road
With a forest of trees on each side
In the distance the road looks endless
Folks stop to ask if I want to ride.
“No thanks, it’s for my health,” I say
They smile and drive on past
And I wonder if they ever exercise
Or think about how long their health will last.
Two and a half miles going
And just as many coming back
Then I grab my bicycle and start riding
Retracing all my footsteps and tracks.
I’ve lost fifteen pounds
And feel better than I have all year
I want to live to be a hundred
Still walking instead of sitting on my rear.
So I’m gonna keep on walking, honey….

It's funny how differently people see exercise. It's been a part of my life always. Two years ago, my activity decreased and so did my health. Now, recovering from my back surgery, it's become a crucial part of my life again. I missed it, and I look back on the last two years with disdain for how lazy I was; always too busy for much exercise. My hubby has never had an exercise regiment. He's one of those thin people who mistakenly think they don't have to exercise. No talking to him. Great poem & attitude! Congratulations on the weight loss, too! Hugs:)

To walk, I did not care
I'd don my cape
and skim the buildings high
over tree tops and up in the sky
just like superman I could do anything
now I'm old and sit on my rear
a walk to the mainbox is my great fear
Back at you my writer dear
love it, Jeanette
