there is so much depth and wisdom to this--there is nothing my children could do to turn me away from them--i am not always happy with them, but the love is stronger than all other emotions--my mother and younger sister (the one who is so sick) do not get along and though her daughter is so sick, she has not been able to reconcile--it is so very sad

Jeanette, this is a story of life in our day. I am 79 and rarly hear from my 4 children. I aslo have a number of Grandchildren and several greats, but no call.
I'm sure you hear from many of the children you have taught. By the way I am attending adult education classes I would like to get a ged before my 81st birthday.

Love goes both ways, Jeanette: have to love in order to be loved. Powerful lessons in heartbreaking lines: well done.

Acting with dedication and devotion in putting the interests of one you care about before your own interests is a telltale sign of love. The demonstrations we see every day of a mother's dedicated and devotional love stem not from a conscious decision of the mind but the caring concern of the heart. You summarize it well in your lines, "What is love anyway...if not casting aside all selfishness."
