The Icy Chill of Winter
The air is icy cold outdoors
The grass is parched and turned to straw
The winds blow through the old oak tree
Dropping leaves before winter’s thaw.
The squirrel’s peek out from their hideaways
Forever busy searching for needed food
Running up and down the tree limbs
Tiny voices squeaking in a playful mood.
I sit inside in my long, warm housecoat
My feet covered with thick, warm hose
My friendly heater running continually
While I blow and wipe my runny nose.
I pray continually for warm and sunny days
While I hibernate trying to stay comfortably warm
I know this long cold spell we’ve had this year
Diverges tremendously from Florida’s usual norm.
I’m ready for wonderful old Mister Sunshine
To warm these winter winds, dew and frost
So I can resume my long energetic walks each day
And make up for the many absentee days I’ve lost
To the icy chill of winter.

An excellent poem, brrrr, you bring winter's chill into my living room! My favorite line is about the friendly heater. :) INDEED. He and I got real close this winter. LOL
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D
And you're not the only one! It's been an extremely long, cold winter.
