I canp;t begin to list all the memories this poem dredged up for me...the many friday night's I spent with my grandmother...the funny way she used to indicate a measurement with her thumb abd index finger...or the mean egg she poached in the morning. Perhaps it was later when I would take my sons to visit and my youngest always in fear of the "scawwy wallpaper in the hallways"...never could figure out just what was so scarry about it..lol...but it did have the appearance although not that fuzzy, flocked feel you fingers recall so vividly.
Memory, inspired by a touch and the touch of someone very special in your life has made delightful reading and a most enjoyable narrative, Joyce. Thank you for sharing.
Love,
Taylor

A piece worthy of treasuring
Lovely tribute to a grandmother
My grand kids have a greatgrandmother
Presently on her dead bed
When I see her I hold her hands
which feel like warm silk
I told my wife I love holding her hands
while I am there, exchanging words and memories
with great grandma, though she unable to speak
we speak with our eyes.

after a stroke she still holding on to life
presently clinging to life by a thread
Enjoying it to it's fullest
and the Lord is there with her.

Love & Peace
William

Grandmothers remind you of all the good things in life. I hope I can be the kind of grandmother you had. My grandmother was not like that at all. Never really got to know her. Beautiful writing Joyce. The Den should hold contests and let the readers be the judges! I think I will visit the poets nest in the near future. Sounds like fun!

Lovely tribute that instantly brings back the memory of a long gone loved one; to me the memory of my grandmother telling us fairy tales as she ironed. The hot scent of the iron on the clean linens came back as a happy whiff...

I called my Grandmother Polly, it was a secret that only we knew and that I never told anyone in my family.
I remember her hands, wrinkled, warm and so soft that they were like small kittens caressing your face.
Thanks for bringing those memories back, maybe she is pointing down showing yours "that's my grandson, the writer" getting an answer from your Mamaw "that one down there writing about me is my granddaughter, she writes better..."
God bless all of them.
Georg

Hello Joyce. This is beautiful. It's amazing how just one moment in time from a Granny, a friend, a teacher, or stranger, can stay with you for life. In my grandest moments I try to always remember to close my eyes and say a little prayer. "Dear God, thank you for this moment in time...". I've recited this simple prayer out loud to several large audiences in the past few years. I'll be saying it again on Sunday at 4pm. If you think about me on Sunday (between 1 & 4pm) I could use a little prayer from accross the miles... to help me say and do things to honor and help the hundreds of people that will be helping me and many others. Sent with love and a smile, Amy S

This is a wonderful poetic story. As I read the stanza below a stream of warmth ran through me. What a great thought to hold in your heart to enable you to bring your grandmother back into your midst again and again as she offers her strength through her spirit.

In times of trouble
on me you must lean
for I will see you through
I will anchor your ship when it is tossed,
and guide you home when you are lost.
