I wish I had known you.

Perhaps you’d see me as someone you could talk to
Not because I’d have anything to say
But because I’d need to learn from you
You’d keep me at arm’s length, anyway
Exactly what I’d need
I know this for certain
This is what I’ve come to believe

If you knew me, maybe you could have showed me how to do this
Just so I don’t overstep
And become remiss
Or careless
Because I’ve been so overzealous

If you knew me at all
You’d tell me exactly what I need to be told
Whether I should stand-by, or fall

If only I had known you
I might be on a completely different road
You could have helped me realize that I don’t have what it takes -
