How such a tiny creature of God can cause so much hysteria! In the photograph Zues in on the left in the double cage and Herculana is on the right in the adjoining single cage. Their are two doors, the one on the bottom stays open so they can move between the two cages. Zues decided to try his hand, ummm beak on the top door. He succeeded in opening it and managed to set himself free!
Strutting his stuff.......
Zues and Herculana are sweet parakeets,
spending their time with tunes they sing.
They flutter their wings and peck the perches,
chasing each other up into their swing.
Herculana is bold and unashamed,
while Zues is quiet, timid and shy.
Flying up, diving down,
sometimes loop just do not know why.
Listening to the birds outside,
they sit up and fluff, begin to chatter.
Their feathers mint green, yellow and white,
little beings of perfect matter.
Zues became brave, strutting his stuff,
made his way to the door to open it.
He would if he could and could if he would,
keep lifting and lifting, until he made a slit.
The door it stuck, his head peaked out,
until he realized he was free at last.
Away he flew, his wings spread wide,
he looked handsome as he went whizzing past.
First, he stayed low, kitties licking their chops,
up to the ceiling for a place to hide.
What came next was chaos, fear and panic,
plainly could see he was bursting with pride.
Quickly turn off all the ceililng fans,
grab the screen, block the fireplace too.
Close all the doors, put the kitties in a room,
try coaxing him in on the count of two.
Took out a perch, held it in my hand,
up and down he went flying all around.
He was getting tired, thirsty and hungry,
finally decided to settle down.
Waiting for when he was good and ready,
sat quiet and still, with a perch in hand.
It did not take him long to finally give in,
he swooped, swirled, came in to land.
Breathing very hard, his tongue sticking out,
not moving a muscle, he stood on his perch.
Lifted him gently, he was frightened enough,
perhaps he was thinking he was in a lurch.
Praising him for his accomplishment today,
held him for a while, petting his head.
His eyes began to blink, his breathing slowed,
knew it was time to place him in bed.
Priceless! An engaging write which I thoroughly enjoyed, Karen. I know you were on the edge, but what a story. Loved it. Visualizing the action was easy. :)
I can so relate to this, Karen, having had two cheeky chaps myself... Ozzie and Chester... who were hysterical! They nattered away incessessantly as between themselves, but shut up like clams when I came near, as if thoroughly disdainful of the fact that I might be eavesdropping on them! They NEVER ceased to make me laugh with their larger than life characters and attitude. Great write, thank you. Brought back happy memories and a grin to my face! LOL Kate xx
Loved my little guys when I had them, named them Fred and Wilma...very smart birds! We also had a cat, no his name wasn't Dino! His name was Tom! He loved to tease Fred and Wilma, I would often find him pawing the cage, or just staring at them, came home one day and caught him right behind Fred, whom obviously he had let out of the cage...within two feet of him, slowly creeping along behind...came home just in time! Caught Fred and wired their cage door shut so I could get in, but they couldn't get out! Very perky little guys! Enjoyed this write, it's amazing what they can get into!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

We had one fly on the curtain rod, it missed and hit the wall,
broke it's little neck.

Enjoyed the write....
Karen, what a great journey throughout the house...this is cute and kept me reading every line...I feared for his life! Hope he thinks twice before going on another flight.
This is delightful Karen, you word painted it perfectly. They are so proud to get free, but not too happy to stay that way when they get tired and hungry;-) Wonderful poem!
I like this, we had a couple of parakeets
but unfortunately the kitty got them. So...
we kind of gave up, two cats in the house,
the poor birds didn't stand a chance.
Karen, now they have something to chirp about for another day.
I enjoyed the following:

Pets sure have a way of entertaining their owners, don't they? I remember the endless times of joy and laughter my own kitties provided; Lord, how I miss my Friday, my Ouizer, my Cajun...*sighhh* Very well done write, Karen; enjoyed~
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Burleson, Karen Lynn. :D
Sounds like you had quite a day around the Palumbo household.
My only question is - How do you keep your cats away?
Don't they ever get bold?
Great poem told.

You've truly made me think about my childhood pet parakeets. I had many, and I always let them out of their cages when my parents went out, until they started pooping all over Mom's curtains!
Parakeets are truly wondrous little creatures, and I'd get some more, but now, I have too many cats and dogs.
If only we could put inside our heads that pets do understand, have feelings and wish to be treated as iquals.
They are the only ones that accept us without judgement with all our shortcomings. No human will do that.
