                                  Quiet.........

Slowly walking from room to room,
remembering a time very different from today.
Quiet was a premium so difficult to find,
school, sports, homework seemed to be
                               the way.

          Difficult to imagine how quickly
                           the years pass,
listening to others talk it surely could not be.
Home filled with chatter, tears, and laughter,
many boxes of band-aids kept for all to see.

Every holiday, birthday was a frantic time,
cookies and cupcakes baked for school.
 Window decorations were carefully placed,
did not matter if the weather was
                            warm or cool.

 Warm afternoons spent picking dandelions,
a glass, some water and carefully
                           brought inside.
Children would dance and giggle with glee,
one could plainly see they were bursting
                               with pride.

Gone are the days of slinky and
                             roller skates,
          radio flyer, marbles, crayons and
                           coloring books.
In a closet lie board games, toys
                           long forgotten,
        infant clothes, blankets, shoes with
                              tiny hooks.

Infant stroller still sits in the corner
                               of a room,
plastic keys, button toys hanging on one side.
Wheels are worn down and fabric is faded,
yet the miles it traveled were far and wide.

Guess I never really took the time
                           to understand,
or maybe I did not want to, could it happen
                                to me?
Just does not seem that long ago, now
                            all is quiet,
that was how it started, now we see.

Time passes so quickly and as we age it moves even faster. There isn't enough time for this busy world. We have to make time for all that is dear to us on a day to day basis. Heartfelt poetry, that is well written. Rhoda

I loved this, yes I too think the days of the slinky...roller skates, marbles, and all those wonderful things that helped make and create wonderful childhood days and memories are nearly a thing of the past. Time sure does have a way of slipping away before our very eyes. It seems we wait forever to grow up, but once we reach that destination and look back, it wasn't long enough! You've expressed it very well my friend, a keeper this one! Enjoyed! Beautiful photo as well, commend Robert!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

You have captured my own thoughts of late. I look in the mirror and can't figure out when it changed. It's all fading away without my permission. There I go, trying to run even THAT show! Beautiful piece Karen.

With lots of good things to remember
Reminiscing isn't so bad
Though it can make us sad
A very touching poem written extremely well.

Karen, as I sit here in my retirement years, many days I ponder the days gone by and say, "Where did they go?" Time waits for no one...everyday is a new journey and we must face it as much as we hate to. You've captured the loneliness and empty feelings we all feel when our children are gone. Sad but true.

Yesterday went by all too quickly. I believe that God gave us memories to remember the beauty of what is good, with the expectation that somehow we can incorporate that into today.

There is certainly beauty in remembering, but nostalgia for what 'once was.'

Nostalgic,
Kathy

Karen,

Life sure has changed from the joyful laughter of childhood to the quietness of reality...to be young again...and I'm not that old! (Feel it, though. LOL) I love the way you write. Beautifully. As this write is: well done.

Just does not seem that long ago, now
all is quiet,

Life truly does seem to fly by, far too often, and all we are left with is memories. But the truly good ones, are wonderful.

THis is one beautiful poem filled with gems from that part of your life you can treasure. It is like in Gods creation where a majestic baby eagle finally flys high in the Sky. As a Mother you must be bursting with joy!
