             Window seat.....

A new day begins with panting and licks,
stubby tails waving creating a breeze.
Climbing and jumping on this old bed,
excitement is catching, they are such a tease.

How could they know what is planned,
on this very bright, very warm day.
Harness and leashes are ready to go,
time to dress so the puppies can play.

A trip to our favorite watering hole,
a window seat is what they expect.
Puppies are growing and need so much more,
off to the stores for a car seat to get.

Keeping them safe while observing the view,
in the car we placed a large mesh blue pen.
They whimper, whine, and yelp a sad tune;
they cannot see out, they want their own den.

Oh, they are not spoiled, just opinionated,
they know what they want, and we better deliver.
Harness and leash we walk into the store,
they leading us, the noise makes me quiver.

A friendly hello and paw shakes they give,
entertaining everyone they pass and see.
Now for the car seat, six to choose,
how will we know which it will be?

High seat, low seat, cushions and pads,
blue, yellow, green gray, orange, and white.
Handle bars, storage bag, pillows too,
which one will we bring home this night.

Six to choose, take them all down,
in the isle we place them in a row.
Yelping jumping, barking, and playing,
let them pick one so we can all go.

Looking, licking, tugging, biting, jumping,
from one to the next, each one poked and pried.
In one, oops they peed, in another got caught;
third one deflated the cushion inside.

The fourth they chewed and poked a hole,
the fifth could not hold the two, what a fright.
The sixth one they sat and then curled up,
as if to sleep, now we knew which was right.

It took some time to install the seats,
then each pup climbed in claiming their throne.
All they wanted was to see out too,
they stared and stared all the way home.

There is something about pups - they love to looke out of car windows. I recall my Dad driving a manual pick up truck, wrapped in dogs. One on his lap. Another on his shoulders.

Karen, as one dog lover to another... What an adorable story in verse. Beautifully written, so much so that I'm able to see the pups in their seats gazing out the window. The panting and licks and pawing I know, for through my life time I've helped the mama dogs give birth to three litters, one of Dalmatians and two of Cavalier King Charles pups. What a rewarding experience all three were.

... tell me, do they wear sunglasses???!!! I can just picture these doggy starlets in pink, gem-studded batwing ones, somehow! The most wonderful thing I think I ever saw near me was a classic sports car driving along with a massive Irish Wolfhound sat next to the driver in the passenger seat... sporting a pair of flying goggles! No joke! It was pure magic. Love this puppy love, Karen. So very heartwarming. xx

Wonderful write about your "children" we all spoil the ones we dearly love and there is nothing wrong with that. I hear they are ill and you have been spending time at the hospital with them, hope they are doing better soon.

I think it's shameful to spoil dogs rotten.

I know when I put my little Shi Tzu Meesha Babee in her car seat, I don't tell her that it has a food and water drawer in it or that her name is boldly displayed on the front. After all, if she knew, the next thing I'd have to consider is letting her drive. And that would be taking my love for her to new unwarranted heights. No, she'll just have to suck it up and get used to my strict rules of conservation.

Oh, yes, she wants to look out and see everything, too. She's so friendly, she'll wag her tail at a passing truck.

Karen, do we have something in common here?

Richard
