Assessing Friendships

 

A friend who really cares
Will sit with you and kick the darkness

They will also tell you the truth

If those you call friends don't
They are just acquaintances

Nothing wrong with that
But  it's good to know the difference

Many have several "caring friends"
Some have only one,sadly many have none

What is the reason some have "caring" friends, the kind that believe in unconditional love

While many have friends,that are good
But won't go the distance

The person who hasn't any really caring friends,is usually the one that's at fault

I remember a time I was so independent ,wouldn't let anyone help me, or get close.I had to do all the giving and caring

That eventually came to an end when I died,and was resuscitated after my first heart attack

Strange everything seemed different afterwards, good friends became cherished people I trusted

Before that, I was the giver and doer
I learned from one of my good caring friends

She said,"Eileen, I hate to hurt you, but you are not being fair. 'It's more blessed to give than to receive.' You follow that well, but what about
others, I want the blessing of giving too, and you stop me from getting it with you. Stop being so stubborn and let me help you"

The excellent caring friend who said that to me is the kind of friend of which we can count ourselves blessed

Believe it or not I never thought of it like that. I followed in my mother's footsteps thinking ,what she did had to be right

We should  look at all angles of situations, we can become selfish, without knowing it

Fixing ourselves on goals with determination we may overlook how it effects others

If I had continued to be stubbornly independent I would have lost the bond of true friendship

For it is a give and take relationship, with each, having to learn how to give and how to take

So when you are assessing your friendships, and find you are lacking the best kind, take a closer look at yourself, you may find the answer
