Groom and Gloom

Bloodshot eyes when they meet
Shards of glass beneath her feet
So different than the red carpet
She had believed she'd receive
Black and blue skies appropriate
Abetting the ambiance of gloom
Fitting for a bride who lost a groom

Emotions running rampant
As they stare each other down
All alone a duet hollywood style
Anger instead of guns drawn
Showdown at the Okay Chapel
She caught cheating the night before
But only he knew it was an even score

He had his party for last flings
No reason to put a wedding off
Yet,fuming he had done just that
She was sorry for her first infidelity
He had no qualms about his own guilt
Her one time, could never be forgiven
Yet, for years she forgave his cheating

Realizing that truth she turned to leave
He stopped her, asking for an explanation
She told him there was no real reason
It was spur of the moment, too much drink
Not like him a steady habit of unfaithfulness
She was thankful to learn, before the wedding
Just how unfair and unforgiving he was

~~*~~
This happened to a friends daughter. They were together four years.
It's been one  year (today)and they have never seen or spoken to each other, although she did try once, he refused to speak to her.

There's an old saying that goes..." There's no smoke without fire "...I would agree with Edwin below, it sounds like both are immature and at fault, and are definitely not a compatible couple !

When people sleep around, which is so common today, it's little wonder that many stray after marriage and voila the divorce rate soars above 50%. In this case it was found out before the nuptuals took place. That the man was more offended than the woman only smacks of male chauvanism and a person that needs to tie a knot in it before he embarks again in a serious relationship with a woman.

Eileen,

A painful write to read, vividly imaged and penned; well done! You may have saved many lives today. BRAVA!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Great write Eileen and most definitely it was good that she realised what she was getting into before they got married. Just a ring and a sheet of paper does not change a person's character. Years of suffering were problably ahead. Hope she will find the right guy and live a happy life.

Unfaithfullness is a strong sign your with the wrong person. You don't have this need when your with the right one. Great write.

Was totally gripped by this, Eileen, as it soooooooo reminds me of one of my favourite novels of all time: Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles, which I did for A Level and has stayed with me. Life don't change much: still seems it's the same male chauvinistic, male-oriented world it always has been, in spite of the rise of recent feminisms. I have heard it said in highly evangelical circles that when relationships go off the rails and infidelity reigns, then it is ALWAYS the fault of the women - who should know better and who are society's "glue" to hold the status quo and community together. Those who adhere to such views probably also estimate that the male sense of reason and responsibility is much governed by what sits between their thighs... but I think both views are highly unfair and do not take into account the duallism of natures that is inherent in both male and female psyches. However, I do think it true that women who are emotionally unfulfilled are possibly more vulnerable to unpredictable behaviour. But the stigma for actions ALWAYS falls worse on women, I think, rather than the blokes. Society takes a very dim view of the mother who leaves her children; the alcoholic female; the wandering woman - when, let's face it, NEITHER is good, male or female!

Hmmm... it must be Friday. Obviously need to let off steam somewhere, but I am sorry for your friend's daughter who has paid the price in full for her misdemeanor. By the grace of God, however, hopefully she will not end up on the sacrificial altar at Stonehenge!! :)) Very visceral write, Eileen, thank you. Kate xx

Yeah, payback is a m----, but then the whole thing usually takes on the auroa of D-Day and before long splitsville, leaving their kids to pay the emotional bill.

Eileen, you think "some" men are the only ones with runaway pride? Maybe so, on "some" women it is call runaway vanity.

It never would have worked anyway. I'm with Edwin. They both sound very immature. Good write, Eileen.

Good little story. I don't know about 'unfair' and 'unforgiving' though for it sounds like both of them were selfish and immature. A dysfunctional realtionship at best. No sympathy for either from my point of view.

Men are asses sometimes and women are bitches too but they're both human and when neither forgive then what's the point? It's bsst to condition and move on. I had to and once I tasted freedom there was no remorse for me. Time is healing and God helps. This poem is sad and the character's anxiety is evident.
You painted so much of what real life can be in a most excellent verse,
Thanks Sis!
Susan
