I was asked what I knew about horses after my poem "Wild Horses"

I know only a little about horses I love them dearly always wanted one of my own,but never had the opportunity,takes a lot to care for horses properly
Learned what I know from some friends who has a horse ranch,got to ride a few times,and named two of their horses, A black stallion Midnight, and a mare, Moonlight
He told me about some breeds such as Paint,Quarter,Saddlebred, Arabian,Appaloosa,Morgan, Palamino Pinto,Mustang, Clysdale, and Thoroughbreds
Like us, they each have different traits. The Morgon was the official horse breed of the USA, I don't know if it still is..I saw the Lipizzaners perform in the seventies while I still lived in Illinois. They are awesome to watch . There are three types of breeds: Coldbloods - Large, gentle horses for working or hauling.
Hotbloods- fast horses used for racing and speed.
Warmbloods - Great breed for equestrian sports and competition
That's about all I know,except that to me a horse has a unique spirit all its own, and I believe it is the most magnificent and intelligent of all animals.
I wish we were back in the days when there were no vehicles,and horses were the only way to travel.Of course I'd really have to learn to ride better,if that were so. I rarely got to ride, and haven't done so for a long time,but I can dream;-)
...and the free spirit of Geronimo and Crazy Horse riding their mustangs are there, in front of you, trail blazing to prod you to ride your own adventure.

I've only rode one horse in my life when I was a teen. My sister kept the love of horses and bought her one when she was old enough to have one. Excellent write!

I love horses, too, Eileen. I had the chance, as a child, to sit on a Budweiser Clydesdale and just the size of its feet was enough to scare me. I think the horse's name was Ben. Sweet memories, nonetheless and the days when horses roamed more freely were, indeed, a simpler time.
I too wouldn't mind living back in what I call a more simple time, no pollution, clean air to breath, horses to ride, less people pushing and shoving, no road rage, yeah convenience would be a thought of the future...but we wouldn't miss what we never had! Enjoyed this, as I too love horses, they do have a special unique spirit and personality! Enjoyed!

Good piece, got the basic covered. She's got 30 here and most out in the mud as we speak, I can give quick lessons on grooming this time of year. They are unique animals and each one has their own personality. Lady J

since I was 5 yrs old, lol but always loved to
ride and later did some ranching, so wonderful.
Hard work sometimes, but so fulfilling. Now I
just ride for pleasure, had a bout of bad health,
but soon I will be back on board. ;) I love em
to death. They are a gift to us, we need to be
aware of that.
