an oldie

The park smelled like spring

On the bench i sat staring

down

I watched  cherry blossoms

skitter in the breeze across

the ground

hearing a Spanish guitar in

the distance

I felt each string of haunting play

somewhere in my being

the hurt in me so intense

I gasped

I knew one day he would leave

I felt a wet drop on my hand

rain

no a tear only one

there won't be anymore

The breeze arose

picked up the blossoms

it's movement fusing with

the pulse of the music and

the quivering of my heart

all coalescing

in one cluster

spinning

towards oblivion

It isn't like I didn't know

the music would end

the blossoms would disappear

the tear would dry up

and all would be gone

forever gone

like all moments that don't last

hold fast

hurting heart

hold fast.

How true Eileen for every second last just that long never to return, so we have to learn to appreciate every second we're given in life. Thank you for sharing.

One tear, but precious. Stored in a bottle and sacred to God. It's my hunch that, at about the time this poem ends, His rainbow appears in the sky overhead to reassure and comfort. It always does, if we've eyes to see - which you have. I like the form you have chosen for this fluid thought stream. This is poignant, but not heavy. It ends with an exhortation to hope and be strong. Such is your posture always, Eileen. You lead by example. Bless you, Kate xx

this is wonderfully constructed, dropping like the cherry blossoms, and the tear...all the way down to the last strength...hold fast, and it does

So evocative. . .beautifully, beautifully written! Pain comes through all too well. . .as, of course, it should. Thank you for taking us on this journey. I can still smell the flowers and
hear the guitar. Want to go back and wipe the tear from your sweet face. <3 Phyllis <3

What a beautiful, cleansing poem. It's these pens of yours, smitten with your wisdom, that gives others a reason to live through love's pain sometimes.

You show how even the hurting heart can, in time, heal and begin to love again. Very heartwarming....

You have the most amazing way with metaphoric combinations, they just flow into each other, like the strings on the guitar and the strings of your heart, wonderful, and so nostalgic. Bless you!
