I needed a new security blanket
the one I had was worn through
and no longer kept out the cold
I was left vulnerable to the
elements...

This made me wonder why we are
such procrastinators. Why wait
until something is worn and frayed
before replacing it...

Isn't it foolish to stay uncomfortable
and cold, night after night, for so
long never  getting the comfort
and warmth you need...

When something  you deserve to have
is beyond repair, you need to be wise
enough to replace it. Trying to make
a threadbare blanket keep you warm
is a lost cause

Yet, the old and frayed DO bring much comfort, ehh Eileen? :o)
Methinks there's more than the "threadbare blanket" that could be applied here...LOL Enjoyed this read...meaningful to me, too.

I have many figurative threadbare blankets. There's a certain comfort that I derive from them. But, maybe I can make a whole NEW blanket from the scraps - you know, a new, stronger, more beautiful quilt. Build on what you've got.

God bless you. Kathy

Often, it is only when we look through others eyes that we notice that our security "blankets" are worn through...

I agree, sometimes those kind of changes make it worse before it gets better.
Love the write.

Got that right - maybe we hold onto it because it brought comfort - excellent thought provoker, Eileen!

I think a lesson for us all.

I hear ya, Eileen. Sometimes we have to get rid of things that we cherish. That's always difficult. Good write with a wise message contained within; great writing as always! BRAVA!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D

Several different shirts I've had and some favorite stuffed animals come to mind.....

It is never easy to throw out something that has served one so well for so long...it is difficult to change from something that has given so much comfort until we realize that we make a sacrifice to hang on to it. Go get your new blanket as you deserve, Eileen. You can rest easy you were faithful enough to the old one. Great write.

Eileen,

I know what you mean. Some of the old things that I have are torn and dingy looking but they're just too comfortable to throw out. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.

A lot to think about here, Eileen, and so many times this is true in life, whether it be with a relationship, or with something else in our lives. I enjoyed this. Well done!

...perhaps we take comfort...in things we hold familiar...though worn with holes...find security in its being...until the thread of its existence is completely gone... For something new...though warm...can have a sense of coldness about it.
many ways to look at this one Eileen...and for that I say...well done.
John

Standing On My Knees by Pinkstone
