Sad write...but love the humor at the end... :~)
It is hard to let go of those who we loved in so many different dimensions, no matter how much some of their actions hurt us.

I got a kick out of this Eileen,
like the faces of death there are faces of truth & alter ego's can also be a very serious dilemma for those who suffer with MPD, but what I got a kick out of this is that I have experienced this type of person first hand as in your poetic express that is & it isn't funny dealing with someone whom feels they do no wrong & want to control you-but do not apply the same boundaries & rules to them self-they are totally arrogant when you peel away the layers of their facade
I say find a new coffee shop!
I especially Love Love Love the end :)

A lightly cynical moment of self-analysis with a twist at the end - still though a precious and encompassing revelation. It is always best to look at our lives directly in the eyes instead of through carnival mirrors.

There is both longing and letting go here, Eileen. A healthy "resolution" to make on a relationship that would seemingly always remain uncomfortable while you were in it. We have to be happy in our skin, but unfortunately, for whatever reason, we only find out too late what our (or the other's!) skin is all about. Then the tough decision is to either live with it or to bow out. I know you're not a quitter and, if you did, it would have been because there was no viable alternative that made sense. This is "just poetry", but of course, but your voicing makes it very real. We can all relate, perhaps, to its reasoning. Bless you, Kate xx
