She looked at the water
lapping gently upon the shore
her thoughts seemed to follow
the mesmerizing ebb and flow

she smiled with contentment
knowing this was what she needed
to stem the emotional turmoil of not
being able to get him out of her mind

Their relationship hung by the finest
of threads.,so ephermeral,she wondered
if it lived  only in her mind and heart
and why didn't he cut it off completely

Instead his one or two words of response
that told her things were changing, to hang
on,kept her doing just that,but she felt the
thread would break any moment

What is this reluctance in us that hates to
let go, even when we know it is inevitable,
she thought of years of hanging on,like the
ebb and flow of the water,goes on forever

The realization hit her that she had become
inured,to being treated like an object that was always there but if it not you'd hardly miss it,she felt the thread finally break
