Cupid's arrow has a barb on it that sometimes makes it difficult to remove. With you help, I believe you can aid that process and discard the now worthless arrow of a love past. Your friend is quite fortunate to have you helping in this time of muddled thinking. JMW

Your friend needed a shoulder and a friend and you did her a great disservice by dismissing her feelings, what a shame. When one goes through a trauma like your friend, we rely on our close friends to be there to listen to whatever we say no matter how gloomy...just so we can vent and we expect that they will sift through what we say, keep the important elements and blow the other away. What a shame that your shoulders did not appear to be broad enough.

Why can't women, and men for that matter, realize that life still exists for them...and probably a better life if they move forward. Not easy being a friend to the "lingering"...been there. Great expressions in your poetic words, Eileen.

I hope she reads this and gets the wisdom in your words. So many times I tell people, don't make another person the air that you breath because if they should leave you would die(you can't live unless you breathe). And when we go through this hard times it's not that we miss that person but more that we miss the attachment we formed to the loving feeling....there is always another person you can ,love and then you would thank that past love for being so stupid for letting you go...infact I will post a poem from my book Lemonade Street about this topic. This is beautiful ET!

I think a feeling many of us have had one time or another in our lives. And support from a good friend usually helps.

Your friend is very lucky to have you there for her Eileen as I remember that feeling of so very long ago. Most of us believe that love is forever but thats only true when two love each other. Thank you for sharing and helping your friend through this time.

Wish she would take that break like when one fall and busted a leg.
For what seems a long time she will feel the weight of the plaster and the difficult to move normally; as the weeks go, she will be more and more able to move and the weight will bother no more of the plaster full of scribbled well wishes.
Them, one day, the cast will be removed and she will be able to run again, slowly at first, but faster and faster, until she can outrun the wind of another love.

Many wise, enriching, and consoling words for your friend here Eileen, yet not sentimental, for in the end that would not be helpfull. Many sadly, forward their own happiness on someone elses shoulder, when that shoulder leaves it takes the happiness with it.

How sad Eileen, if only she can see the whole world will open up to her if she just lets it. Open the door and allow God into your heart and see how your journey is to continue. Divorce is dificult, but there is life to be lived when the dust settles. I pray your friend will see and understand......

Amen, for this poem...we must move forward in life and realize our prayers are what gets us through the pains & sorrows in our lives. We cannot allow our hearts and minds to "stop and give up"...because our lives will continue to go on, and eventually, we'll be thankful for the separate path we took. An exceptional writing.

Time, prayer, and friends make a world of difference! My mom is proof enough to me that life does go on after such heartache. She is a strong lady with much pride, dignity, and belief in herself! She also is a lady of faith which has carried her through all these years! That and family and friend! A touching write about a part of more and more people's lives...what ever happened to for better or worse? It seems that everything is about convenience today! Sounds like you will be a big help to your friend!

Your advice is right on the money and should be heeded by your friend. Sure our pride takes a blow and we can't understand why love is gone, but we have to put it behind us and move on.

She will have to learn to go on and live her life accordingly. Nice things are still ahead for it. She is not a failure, believe me I know. Been through it, felt suicidal, lived through it and made it. You need to stand by her though and watch over her and be with her to comfort her and just let her say her thing, Prayers for her go out from me.

Your poem does an excellent job of describing that feeling that comes with a breakup. When someone dies, we have closure and have to go on with our lives. When we lose someone to a breakup, its like a part of ourselves have been lost and we have to learn to walk again without that other part. I hope your friend will realize that there is tomorrow and each day will get a little bit better. The best mantra for getting over such pains of loss is to say constantly, "This too shal pass."

It's hard to know and accept that the love that was once glorious and is now dead. It's not a good feeling, but life goes on. One must move forward for better self.
