There has been sailors in our family for years. I remember my grandfather telling stories of the wide open sea, he would tell my brother (Bill) the sea is in your blood and sure enough it was. Bill went of to sea when he was fourteen years old and loved every minute of it. Soon he too had a love for the waters. We would be so excited as we watched from our kitchen window for the Bowater ship to come in with the return of my brother from some new part of the world that he had discovered.
A Sailors Heart
The waves washed over the deck, As the moon shines down from above, The waters so dark yet it glistens, Fills the sailor's heart full of love.
The love for the strong waters, The depts of the sea below, The feel of the ship as it 's swaying, As the waves move the ship to and fro.
Hear the voice of the still waters calling, More beauty has never been found, The love in the sailor's heart for the water, No beauty lay still on the ground.
The waters, he hears it calling, He longs for his trip out to sea, He awaits his evenings, with it's beauty, And the feeling that he is now free.
The music he hears as the waves sway, The moon as it glistens below, The feeling the sailor holds in his heart, As the waves sway the ship to and fro.
Rose, as an old sailor meself I know this song of the sea well, I often lay awake at night and wish I could just take one more trip. I also knew your brother Bill will and I think it was seeing him so often in his Coast Gurard uniform that made me also want to go to sea when I got older. This one brought back special memories of my own of being on the CCGS Labrador and tying up in Corner Brook and coming to your house as a young 18 year old far from home but being made to feel always welcome. Thanks again for the reminder Cuz.
