I often think of what will become of the many precious items we have collected over the years of our marriage. I guess they will one day be stored under one of our childrens stairs in the damp and darkness and maybe forgotten, until one day they decide it is time to clear it out and then and only then will they realize the treasures that were hidden for so long. Then they will see the love and stories that made our love so true .

The Boxes Under The Stairs

In so many boxes under the stairs,
lay memories of a love so true ,
Hidden deep inside the dark cartons,
There lies the treasures of me and you.

Black and white photos are stacked,
Tell the story of another's life,
The happiness that grew for years,
In the life of a husband and a wife,

A wedding dress all crinkled,
Turned yellow with the years,
A stack of old love letters rest,
Stained with many fallen tears.

Memories that's all is left,
Tucked in cartons, stored away,
The stories that sit under the stairs,
Of a love that's long gone astray.

Our children today, don't understand,
The true , honest love we had,
For we believed in "Death do us part",
No thoughts of divorce, how sad.

But you'll find boxes under the stairs,
Tucked away in the dampness and dark,
They tell you the truth about love,
A love that came straight from our hearts.

Stunning and so very true, we seldom value the effects of our parents and grandparents things until we also reach the age where we ourselves realize we will soon be leaving our own boxes of memories under the stairs. You captured and presented your topic wonderfully in this write dear cuz.

Rose, another wonderful poem. Of course we all know of the boxes under the stairs. They hide there in many ways, holding the good and the bad.
