I think back to when I was younger and tended to five children and at that time I never thought of it as a tiring job but today as I watch other mothers deal with their daily routine, it sure beats me out. I don't know how my mother dealt with eight of us but I remember the days when she sat all of us around and helped each one with their homework. It seemed every morning there was a clean pressed outfit hanging in our closet and home cooked meals everyday of the week, umm I can still smell the fresh baked bread before we entered the house. I wonder did she look forward to bedtime?
Bedtime Comes Soon
Spending the day just doing chores, Dusting furniture, cleaning floors.
Wiping fingerprints from the wall, Preparing meals for both big and small.
Making sure the day run smooth, Keeping everyone calm and in a good mood.
Suppers cooked, they gather near, Sitting round to say a prayer.
Helping them learn to read and spell, So in school, they'll do real well.
Soon bedtime's drawing near, They kneel and say their night time prayer.
Throw yourself on the bed, think awhile, Your day belongs to your husband and child.
Bedtime comes soon, you thank God above, For your day filled with rewards, of joy and love.
This is a fine tribute to mothers who give of themselves so unselfishly. My mom raised seven of us and I hardly ever saw her not working. Nicely done, Rose. Love and peace to you,
Ahhh, such wonderful wonderful memories Rose.
One must say instead of how did they do it back then...how come they cannot do it now!
Hmmm, I always took pride in caring for my daughter and still do although she is twenty and on her own though...but~whenever she is home for vacation, wonderful and overwhelming.
Think back then as you said "never thought of it as a tiring job"
however we know that bed time was indeed a treat for the kids if their day has been fulfilled and definately a treat for the parents...a most fulfilling day!
MMM, and that hot bread in the oven can smell it now...those memories.
Thank you for offering such a beautiful and heartfelt work.
In appreciation for the thoughts given,

Yes I remember some of those days, especially when our mother had the means to provide us with these simple pleasures. I do especially remember the clean uniforms hanging in waiting for us, and her always trying to keep up with the housework when things were good at home. You really do have some great memories.
Love you,
Lina
