Too Much, Not Enough

I remember when I was a child,
; it was great having my mom home. We could be sure there was a hot cooked meal on the table for dinner each night and we could smell the bread baking before we entered the house. She baked all the time and there was always plenty to go around. I knew that if I was home sick she would be there to take care of me. The world has surely changed since then. It takes two incomes to raise a family and keep up with the Jones's in today's world. So many people are overweight today, more people are having heart attacks at early ages. Maybe for the right reasons some of these things are great but I feel they are interfering in health and happiness of too many lives, causing not enough time for people to realize how they are slowly killing themselves. There seems to be too much, and not enough.

Too Much, Not Enough

Way back, when I was a child,
Just a short forty some years ago,
There wasn't  much money or jobs,
But we were all very happy I know.

No computors or cell phones back then,
We were lucky with a phone on the wall,
But we got a lot of exercise and fresh air,
Cause we'd walk to their house instead of call.

We didn't play X-Box or watch TV for hours.
We went outside for marbles and fun,
We weren't overweight from the fast foods,
Cause we hopscotched, played ball and we'd run.

Not like today, with too much on the go,
Not enough chores, can't walk to the store,
Everything  today is run by remotes,
Don't have to open a window or door.

Don't have to read or learn to write,
And spelling's a thing of the past.
Don't have to know time tables or do math,
Just make your fingers move really  fast.

The click of a button, the floors are done,
Wash the clothes, as you take a rest,
No more worry bout failing your grades,
Computers are now taking the test.

Too much is given, in too many ways,
Our life is easier then it's been before,
But our health and knowledge is failing,
Not enough exercise for bodies or minds anymore.

This may be great for the office at work,
But people take time slow down some,
Exercise daily and eat proper foods,
Try to enjoy the life in which you come from.

Hey sis, you hit the nail right on the head with this one, EXCEPTIONAL work. The young adults of today have no idea on what they are missing. I feel sorry for them all. Love & hugs.

Life has changed, as it will continue to do. Children used to be able to play outside, not anymore, much too dangerous. Don't think it is the fault of all the new gidgets and gadgets. Think some forget they are meant to be helpful tools, not an appendage.
Be safe,
Karen

Rose,
<APPLAUSE!!!> This is outstanding, Rose. How it brought me back in time to my childhood. Their was eight kids in my family <four boys..four girls>. We'd play hopstotch for HOURS, and softball. We'd WALK to the store and enjoyed it! We lived outside and was always doing something. We'd pick blackberries for Mama to make a cobbler, and that was more walking. Mama also had good things cooking in the kitchen and often the neighbor kids would eat with us. What's one or two more when you already had to cook for so many? I look back on those times and miss my Mama terribly. She was the glue that held our family together. Being a child I didn't know it then. I know it now. Thanks Rose, for reminding me of the 'happy' days! This ones a keeper in my library!

Many blessings,
~Linda

I was thinking this very same thing, with all the technology we have today, it has made us lazy. Driving to work today, I seen a girl about 8 or 9 years old spinning around in her front yard, arms flailing in circles, and it made me remember how good it felt to be young and free, just enjoying being outside. I enjoyed reading this write Rose.

It does seem as thought the more "we" try to make life easier for ourselves via new technology and such, quite the opposite is happening. Thank you. Love and peace,

Rose,

Boy, I remember those days when kids would go out and play the whole day; when Mom would holler you in for dinner, you were ready to EAT! And it wasn't junk food: it was good, n u t r i t i o u s food that tasted so wonderfully. Now, kids (and adults) would rather drive than walk: not me. Being that I can't afford a car, I have no choice BUT to walk. 'Course, I like to eat, but can't eat the good stuff any more: too expensive. Starches at least make me feel full...but also pack on the pounds. An excellent write; well done!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

I think so, too. This interfering with people's life choices is for the birds; let us alone and let us be! We can't ALL be thin or have the ability to exercise! For me, I'm happier taking walks than having to worry about struggling on an expensive exercise machine that probably doesn't even work anyway. Good, thought provoking write you have penned, Rose, thank you!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(
