Hidden Pain

We sometimes let things build up over the years. We need to know when we should talk things out. Letting things build up can cause so much hidden pain, that we try to hide behind smiles.

Hidden Pain

We gathered round the table,
Telling stories from our past childhood,
Understanding the reasons why,
We shared  the stories that we should.

Little thoughts that weren't so clear,
That we  seemed to question as a child,
Those little things that sometimes hurt,
Hidden deep behind that smile.

Another glass of wine, to help ease the pain,
To hide what's on our mind
those little things that's grown,
Over a period of time.

Smile a little, shed a tear,
For things we hadn't  known,
One day we'd ask those questions,
One day when we were all grown.

So now the pain has disappeared,
It's forever gone away,
Because we took the time to talk about,
What bothered us each day.

It's only now we understand,
The distance that stood in the way,
Two people, who cared so much,
And made us wonder everyday.

 Reviews of "Hidden Pain"

Yes dear sis, we know all about hiding our pain and putting on a smile to hide what is hidden deep inside. Its sad that there is still a few of us that hasn't faced the monster that is still eating away inside. Someday hopefully they too will forgive so they can also heal. Very touching write. Love & hugs.

When you come from a large and loving family, sibling rivalry, hurts real or imagined do tend to be pushed into compartments and left to fester rather than being dealt with for the good of family harmony. Sadly that wasn't always the best way to deal with things. Like you I too grew up in a large family and we also had our share of grudges, slights, spats etc that were not resolved...some not for years. It is good that you have found your family peace. Hugs Cuz from me
