I wrote a poem a while ago about the boxes under the stairs and I started thinking about my parents boxes because they lived with my husband and I for a few years before they passed on. Sometimes it is not for us to question what one finds in another, but to accept it.
I believed through the years that I married my husband, not his family and he married me, not my family. We have to live, love and please each other.
I Returned To The Boxes
I returned to those old boxes, I looked through them today, I now understand how you loved, Why it wasn't just thrown away.
So many memories stacked neatly by, Good and bad, that was your life, Then I felt myself began to cry, For I to am a good loving wife.
I cleaned of the glass of a picture, Taken so many long years ago, In your face was a kind forgiveness, For the love that only you would know.
Even the smile that you shared, As you looked at each other tenderly, Could tell anyone from an instant, It was alove that was meant to be.
A love that lasted fifty years or more, And now you share it all with me, As I return to the boxes under the stairs, To find your love, that was meant to be.
I am so glad that you find so much love in those pictures and I am sure at some point there was plenty. After all people usually get married out of love and always hope that love will last forever. I am also sure that through the good as well as the very bad, there is always hope of changes. Love & hugs to you sis.
Yes when we look back at our parents and grand parents we have to admire there conviction and dedication through good and bad that allowed them to raise dozens of children in the worst of circumstances and still manage to somewhere retain their own love.
