I Know That I Must Pay
I told them my very story, I was inoocent from the very start, No matter how I explained it, They had me guilty from the start.
They put me away for twenty years, For something I never done, I tried to fight it, the best I could, But my case, I never won.
The cell it was dark and empty, I could hear people talk through the night, Then I heard something shatter, In another cell there was a fight.
How my heart broke to be there, For only I knew, I should be free, For being somewhere, I shouldn't, Instead of together, my love and me.
I look at those cells daily, Holding on to the rest of my life, Praying for the day when, I'll again hold my loving wife.
Twenty years will go by quickly, I'll keep faith in me and you, When I'll be free of those steal cells, And forever I'll be set free.
Please never give up on me darling, I tell you that I'll return someday, Right now I am locked in those prison cells, For wrong doings, I know that I must pay.

Very interesting story and very real to life. I read an article in last evenings paper about a man who has just been released from prison after serving 22 years for rape he didn't commit. After serving 12 years of a maximum 35 year sentence he was refused parole 9 times because he wouldn't admit to the crime and would not allow his name to be put on the sex offenders list. Due to some mix-up in DNA and the sharpness of his lawyer it was discovered he was wrongfully accused. The paper didn't state for how much but they're now sueing the state for the wrongful conviction.
