My Old Trusted Friend

Just an old trusted friend,
There he was back in the day,
When all the children spent their time,
Laughing with each other at play.
We would later sit on a hollow log,
Down close by the river,
We'd chat long into the evenings,
Till the coolness would make us quiver.
We'd soon hear the call from our mom,
Which meant it was time to go home,
But my old trusted friend and I,
Were never really alone,
We went our separate ways,
Holding dear, the stories we shared,
Some things we'd be punished for,
But the secrets with us, caused us no fear.
The next day would be a repeat of itself,
Me and just my old trusted friend,
Would meet up early in the day,
Sharing adventures that wouldn't end.
Even now I sit and chuckle,
When I think back to my childhood time,
Back through those special memories,
Of me and my dear old trusted friend.
