For those of you who read and enjoyed part 1 of this yesterday, hope you aren't dissappointed in part 2, here goes. I do apologise if this appears to be too long. I have five children and do realize that all the children today are bad actors, so please don't take it that way. It's just that the world and life as we had it has.

When I Was But a Child
 ( Part 2 )

I think we grew up healthy,
Tried to keep our nose clean all the time,
Because our parents had permission,
Back then, to keep us all in line.
I know we were much happier,
Then those kids of today,
Today they're given way too much,
They have far too much to say.

They don't respect their parents,
And they don't do well in school,
They think they have all the answers,
They constantly break the golden rule.
They want things on a golden platter,
Don't work for what they get,
They can be rude and ignorant,
And have no self respect.

They don't know how to read,
They can't spell a word they write,
All they want to do is argue,
If things don't go their way, they fight.
They don't know how to dress,
Or concentrate in the school,
I think because the parents of today,
Are afraid of that golden rule.

What happened to the good old days,
Back when I was young,
When girls and boys would join together,
In some good old fashion fun.
When we could walk the streets,
Not be afraid to walk them all alone,
And our parents never worried,
Cause they knew we would return home.

The worst we did was steal a smoke,
Or sneak a drink of booze,
Then we got grounded , to our room,
Where we went of for a snooze.
Ah, that's when I was a child,
And we had that golden rule,
The children today don't realize,
We were the generation, we were cool.

This certainly is a wonderful ending to part one. And again true are the words written. There is a drastic change from yesterday to todays children and the golden rule has certainly been bent a little too much if not totally ignored altogether.

Right on, and far out. We were, and still are cool.

As a follow up to Part One this brings the whole write to a great climax in the rightousness of it all. We have lost so much of what was good and right in the world in favor of progress and what they call liberalism. When they took away the ability to punish a child who was misbehaving they sentenced those children to an unhappy future where what they want and reality do not mix. Some kids do not need to be disciplined I agree others though need a stern hand to guide them into the world of tomorrow.

Rose,
Right on!! I'm glad you added this part 2 and posted it. So much of this rings true for me today and I find myself constantly biting my tongue when my cousin's son pulls the stunts you write about. Amen, we WERE/ARE cool!! :>)
