Strange how when we are young, we don't think about growing old until one day we realize gosh we are getting up there, where did the time go and it keeps going by faster and faster. A day doesn't have 24 hours anymore and a week doesn't have 7 days and a year doesn't contain the 12 months we were use to. A lot of us realize what we have we want to hold on to because there isn't enough time to screw up. It is with age we see we have been blessed. Unfortunately we know the day will come when we will be like that tree, Bent & broken will be our heart. I do pray that I will have many, many years before I am faced with this, I am not looking forward to looking like that tree anytime soon.

Bent & broken as my Heart

I sit alone in a wide open field,
Thinking of what I must do.
For so many years I have given my all,
To my only sweetheart dear you.

Sadness have filled my eyes with tears,
Separated we had no choice but to part.
I sit all alone in a wide open field,
By this tree, bent & broken as my heart.

Age is showing all the signs;
It’s toren us after years far apart.
Again I sit here & look at this tree,
With age bent & broken as my heart.

This tree we once sat under,
As we gazed at the stars above,
Now I look at the  home you have chosen,
As I sit here without you my love.

It became our special meeting place,
When our folks denied us our love.
We would meet under the tree in secretcy,
We would gaze at the Heavens above.

I look at the branches above me,
I remember the strength they once had,
When you & I were young lovers,
We never thought we could ever be sad.

Today the branches are withered & torn;
They are broken and bent to the ground.
No more will they  brighten with  life,
For its age too has come around.

Rose, we should have been born as a oak, they tell me that those trees will be here forever, getting more beautiful with the years, and no wind will dare to broke one of its branches.

This poem touched my heart in many ways. When we're young , we don't think about becomming old. As our hair turns to silver and wrinkels appear, our time on earth grows shorter .. You poem has captured it all! WELL DONE!.....M

Rose this poem could easily be a song
its funny how a tree life can reflect
Sadness and grow old have a broken heart
the same as humans
in many ways trees feelings and life
Represents the human life!
I love the tone the flow and emotions
Your words captured in this
Beautiful write!!
Keep that flow!!
Peace Love and hugssss...Morning star

My God Rose, this just has to be up there as one of your best! All the raw emotion that we all feel and face, then put aside for another day. Trying to hold on to what once was and is no more. I was divorced many years ago when there were pre-school children to take care of. In my later years I met and married Robert and for now the void has been filled. God bless and keep you strong dear lady....

Be always safe,

Karen

Wonderful look back at a love that was as vibrant and strong as the young tree but now see how age has taken its toll.

Time moves so fast and how true, we dont realize it until we are much older. A brilliant write full of truth and some sadness that we all will experience one day.

Yes, well thoughtout and with full feelings of what it is to be losing time at a faster rate. It's scary at times and at others the memories just flood over me. Excellent write. Liz

Rose, this actually brought tears to my eyes because many days I fill just like you have written this. Time has "no" mercy for any of us...it only robs us of our youth. What a fabulous job you did on this one, well stated and spoken in truth.
