As Adults we often go back wandering through times, some good and sometimes not so good. We can often find a cure to the many fears through our lost and lonely memories. It is a shame that so many little children that don't fully understand has to suffer this terrible experience. Time for adults to stop and look at them and what they are doing to these little ones.

Only Lost & Lonely Memories
September 19, 2008
Written By: Rose marie Rideout

Back through the years,
I wander back through time,
Thinking of all the past happenings,
All that’s stored in my mind.

Only lost and lonely memories,
Left alone so I’d forget,
Things I’d rather not remember,
Things others should regret.

Another’s behaviour,
Harsh words spoken in vain,
Hurt feelings last forever,
With degrading names.

Only lost and lonely memories,
A fear set in the night,
of a time in the younger years,
When things weren’t done right.

Why is it so dark, what’s that noise,
What is it that I fear,
Why do I lay awake throughout the night,
Longing for someone to care.

A frightened little child,
Crying long into the night,
Listening to Mommy and Daddy,
They know it can’t be right.

Nights are incredibly dark, but darker, yet, when adults instill fear in children by their behavior. Insightful, but sad.

God bless you. Kathy

... we are all children in adult bodies, I believe. Only the ways in which we walk, talk and taught ourselves to think have diverted and channelled the past. But it's at the bedrock of who we are, consciously or unconsciously. We don't have to dig too deep to uncover the roots of who we are or where we've come from. Powerful material you work with here, Rose. Kate xx

So very sad, Rose; and you are right, we should all be thinking about how our adult actions affect the little ones.

Been there, heard it all, never forget.
At the end of my life, after so many many years, I wonder why I never forgot that childhood.

Hello Rose,

I agree with Felix Perry that the child in us never forgets, and "lost & lonely memories" of childhood sometimes draw us to the truth. My most disturbing memories were of nuns who were always screaming at us and who always seemed angry with each command, nuns who made us kneel on beans as "punishment", and who made us pay for

booklets of tickets as fundraising for a school auditorium. Those

memories later made me ask questions (to myself) if this was what God is all about - and I found out the TRUTH. My memories served me

well. I'm glad you wrote this poem.

Can you read my mind? You described my existence as a Shadow Child to a Tee. The pain of the past haunts me daily and it will for the rest of my life. HUGS! SC

rose you have told it just as it is for these children. I see them when it is beyond just memories but when they are hurt and afraid of "grownups" that supposed to be good role models. Great write. Wake and shake them up Rose!!!!

things that shape us, make us what we are. When we're

Hi Rose,I know that feeling.Sometimes parents and adults really need to be careful at what they say and do in front of a child and also take good hard look at themselves in the mirror.A very good poem, take care

The child in us never forgets and sadly the bad experiences of childhood often haunt us long after the loving ones are just fleeting thoughts. You captured that well here cuz... sad but well written piece.
