A few months ago I lost a very special friend, leaving behind his beautiful wife who is surviving with Alzheimers, She had depended on him for everything and now had to be placed in a home for proper care. She doesn't understand what has happened but knows things aren't the same. I love her so much and my heart breaks as I feel this is how she thinks on her good days.

Empty Walls & A Broken Heart
October 16, 2008
Written By: Rose Marie Rideout

 look at the empty walls,
That once held many our memories,
Of another time in our lives,
When there was you and me.
One of the many brighter days,
When happiness was what we knew,
Those were the days when we were blessed,
Dear when there was just us two.
Now the walls are dark and dreary,
Nothing hangs there anymore,
I couldn’t bear to look at the memories,
It’s you dear I will always adore.
My heart it has been broken,
Never more to be repaired,
For you are gone and not returning,
The only one for me who cared.
I will always have that love,
I’ll hold it deep within my heart,
For it hasn’t diminished love,
It’s the same as it was from the start.
I know it was not your choice,
Of why you went away,
Another Angel was needed,
So He called upon you that day.
He felt that I would be strong,
Somehow I would pull through,
But I feel my days are numbered,
I can’t survive here without you.
You were my knight in shining armor,
My sun and my breath of fresh air,
You were the one that I could count on love,
Because you were the one who cared.

Tearfully, I asked God to let me live longer, so that I could be here for my dear wife who depends on me totally, but whose mind is better and sharper than mine. Still, what would happen to her? I shudder to think. This totally touches on my fear for that loved one
Rose. God's will be done for your friend. My heart goes out to her. Thank you for this evocative poem. It stabs at the heart. I will pray for an answer to Alzheimers. Rockie Coppolella

The lost, when one understand is incredible painful, but the lost when one doesn't? the desorientation, the feelings of abandonment, the sudden different world, which words would write anyone suffering from Alzheimers if they could?
Deeply heartful poem.

Georg

Sweet Rose I sit here in tears reading your words so delicately penned from your heart and how well you express your love towards another. Sort of how my mother was before she died, just kept repeating my father's name over and over and over lost is a sea of strangeness......

Be always safe,
Karen

Very moving and Alzheimers is such a tragically sad disease to begin with, to watch someone you love forget their whole world is so sad.
