The Cards We're Dealt In Life

Many years ago I tried to explain to our children that life is like a deck of cards or playing a game of poker to win. We are dealt a hand and it is up to us what we decide to keep and how we play. It can be good or bad but it is our decision. How good are we at playing?

The Cards We’re Dealt In Life
October 26, 2008
By: Rose Marie Rideout

The day that we are born,
Into this world you see,
We were dealt a hand of cards,
Of how our life was meant to be.
Now we have many choices,
Some good or bad to take,
But what we chose to keep and play,
Marks the type of life we make.

You see the:
Ace is for Happiness
The King stands for Joy
Th
e Queen is for great Trust

The Jack with Understanding gets us by
The Ten is always Praise
The Nine is a great love
The Eight speaks kind words
The Seven makes our Heart Glow from above
The Six sends great sorrow
The Five sends sadness your way
The Four means a misunderstanding
The Three sends tears to you this day
 The Two always Criticise
An Empty hand just turns to Hate,
If you come out With a Winner,
Then you know your life will be Great.

As a child you knew from the very start
How you had to begin each new day,
You’d wash, dress, eat & brush your teeth,
Before you went out with friends to play.
You knew that you were loved a lot,
By those who greeted you with love,
We would teach you how to play the game,
With the help of the  Good Lord up above.

Rose,

What about a stacked deck?

Very nice poetry Rose - the deck was interesting to me - I've never heard the cards called out in that manner.

Thank you, ~Donna.

Good write Rose and a great analogy. As a poker player from the time I was a child, I can only agree with you. We need to know when to rush in and raise the stakes, when to back off and just coast along, and even when to fold the cards and wait for a brand new hand...

What's that Country Western song, you gotta know when to fold them, but that was meant for cards, life gives us many hands to play and what we draw and throw away, determines how our life will be. Great poem Rose.

I have played that life game since I was twelve years old, always I choose Texas Hold'em, bluffed a lot and got away with it, never put my chips where my guts said "don't", but now, at the end of the game I will once and for all go "all in" and see what happens, if she would see mee before I kick that proverbial bucket.
