Strange how when we are young, all we can think of is leaving home and never turning back. Little do we realize at that moment that once we walk away nothing is ever the same and there really is NO turning back to the life we once knew.

No Turning back
January 03, 2009
By: Rose Marie Rideout

Leaving , isn’t always easy, knowing,
Deep inside there’s no turning back.
The road is a long one ahead,
Like walking along a one way track.

You leave home, young & Innocent,
Maturing along the way,
Missing what was left behind,
Your family & home day after day.

A home filled with love,
The aroama of a home cooked meal,
The music & conversation on the porch,
A life that now seemed so real.

Today you’re in an apt.
Fake greenery surrounds your home,
The only fresh air you get,
Is when you sit on the balcony alone.

Thoughts run through your mind,
Thoughts of the past, of not turning back,
Remembering that day you walked away,
Like walking along a one way track.

Making a life to call your own,
Finding a partner, for you alone.
A new life, no turning back,
As you walk on down that one way track.

A nice work to reflect on Rose, it is a walk that makes us who we are. How else would we learn of all the ups and downs of life? An enjoyable read....

Just think though sis, the only person we missed when we walked away was our darling mother, she made our house a home and yes prepared us for better things in our lives. Without her there was no beautiful memories. Very nice write sis.

Love you forever,
Selena

Rose,
No turning back, but how fortunate that we can remember those days.
I find such joy in reminiscing. Let's hope those anxious travelers will too, one day. Beautifully written.

Rose, "No" we cannot turn back to the way life once was when we leave it...we have to make it on our own, (but) "no" one can take those memories away from us...can they? Time sneakes into our bodies and steals our days from us...is it fair? I truly enjoyed this writing.

The arrow of time flies true. Not so with the (hopefully) long and winding road of life. Your poem speaks truthfully of the common experiences of calling a life your own, as you have so aptly put it. The virtual world which exists in our mind, is all we have left after the real one exits the scene.

Fortunately, we can visit there anytime we want. Carpe Diem!

Thanks for painting the picture of life in such vivid colors, Rose.

A wonderful write Rose. They don't know what they face in their hurry to spread their wings and fly away. But that they must do not realizing the truth of "no turning back."

Rose ~ A beautiful write,
"Thoughts run through your mind,Thoughts of the past, of not turning back,Remembering that day you walked away,Like walking along a one way track." This verse does bring back memories of the day I left home, at age 15 I walked along the train tracks and over the tressle on my way from the smell of burnt spaghetti, on to a house that really had a home for me and was really filled with home cooked meals and love. That day, is a day I will never miss the direction from which I came. I don't mean to be a downer, because that was a good day,I found my true family in the direction of love. Thank you for the memories of a positive experience as a child. Warmth and Love to you. Carin'

A wonderful write...we can't go back in reality, but we can visit often in our dreams, thoughts, and occasional visits on holidays...time doesn't stand still for anyone and I find myself drifting back for visits more often than usual...I think that comes with age or shall I say maturity...a beautiful write my friend!

Can't believe that it is so long ago that I went looking from my little world for the answers in the big world.
I got disappointed, the answers were the same from both.
Should had be content with what I had from the beginning.

It's a long road, and sometimes lonely, with lots of twists and turns, pitfalls and briar patches. Terrible situation. Ha! But you are living proof that the road can lead to a wonderful place :-)
