- Humanity is a choice, even when it is a painful one -

In the pond
I drowned
The hope that made me.
The hope that made me suffer.

Not throwing my arms
Around emotion
Is so unlike me,
So like me
To feel
Not epidermic
But vertical voyage
Within.

Plunging,
Delving deeper
Than just me,
Further than my belly
- the fruit -
To reach
The stem,
The root
And then...

Then, the earth,
Welcoming
Generous humus
That kisses my abstract thoughts,
Warms up my earthly arms,
Frozen hands
That can hold no more.

Humanity strives
In ambivalence
That cannot last;
The work of dirt diggers
Who feel safe
Avoiding materiality
Wearing a double pair of gloves.

No,
My bones are not
Made of hope.
No longer immortal,
Simply human,
I welcome my dirty hands.

Awesome. I think I will dig in the dirt and yes, be comforted and calmed. And when I dig I plant as you have new thoughts and perceptions. Excellent. No we can not remain in the ambivalence forever. Liz

Sad, but true, "humanity strives in ambivalence".
With humility in our hearts, those working "dirty hands" will find a way to Hope and the fruit of Peace beyond.
Another engaging, nicely penned capture, Axilea.
Peace & Blessings,
Carolyn

Reading "With Dirty Hands" ... I was not only listening to your inner rumblings ... but I was also assaulted by several visuals ... this poem is beautiful and much I can myself identify with ......... it also needs a portrait to accompany it ...

thank you ... you made me hear and see...

Accepting the pain of life is as the acceptance of hope, though hope takes us into the pain of life, where one can find the soiling of the body, mind, and soul. The materialistic world cannot even escape our touch, even with double gloves we still have no choice, we are human and will only find our immortality....through hope...

a very nice work of thought provoking expression...

nice...

This world is so chaotic, how could one not get one's hands "dirty?" Your verses provide substance for thought, Axilea. Thank you for sharing this gift. Love and peace to you,

Gripped my attention and my attraction as I pictured each scene as it pertained you a beautiful lady exploring her inner self to come out in the end hopeful and majestic.

I always say it's much better to be human than inhumane. You cram a whole lot of thoughts and feelings into very tight verse.
I sense you're very strong -- both as a writer and a person.
Well done.

Deep ontologic thoughts developed to a teleologic picture that was painted with the colors of humanity. "With Dirty Hands" takes one on a deep diving into the ocean of life and living.

Earth opens full--
welcomes you into her womb.
Later,
you pop open like a seed after flame--
the seed is born there--
within the womb--
nourished by the womb.
And slowly,
the infant arms stretch upward,
reaching for light,
writhing for truth,
seeking for air;
infant toes wriggling,
stretching,
glutting on love.
Then,
full-sun,
you blossom--
full.
