THIEF

- is something missing in the mirror? -

There was no smile
inside the gilded frame.
Fashionable wall of solitude,
the mirror forgot
to show that detail.

If she turned around,
iconlike,
could the eyes of strangers
reflect a mere intention
no longer on her face?

Somehow, she thought,
the smile had vanished
between her frozen belly
and her fair but fickle gaze.

Yet in the dark stairs,
an attentive listener
would distinguish the feline steps
of a thief on the run.

For every missing smile,
there might be a receiver
of stolen goods
- somewhere -
in a damp hiding place.

This poem has paid its dues to the poetic treasure... "THIEF" sings with the voice of knowledge and art.

Superb imagery with such depth so much so that it steals the mind away to ponder.

We all go through changes, and sometimes we feel that somehow our life has been stolen, but not by others. It is our own doing. We steel who we were, to evolve into who we will be or have become.
Sorry to ramble, this is what your poem made me think about.

I love the concept of a receiver of stolen goods--stolen kisses, stolen looks, stolen laughs, stolen whatevers--awesome! I'm stealing your idea and running with it, but don't worry, it'll turn up somewhere... --Charlie

Such subtlety is rare. Your perception is extraordinary, your words painted in darkness.

Much to contemplate here. Superb work.

Reminds me of "Mirror, mirror on the wall" hoping to get an honest answer where none can be found. All one sees is the reflection and not the broken heart. One day the mirror will reflect the beauty that shines forth through the eyes.

God bless you. Kathy

Alas there is no justice in the world, when someone robs somebody of one's joy. But we should believe that any thief not caught by the justice system will some day have to pay for his wrongdoing.
Well written. Bravo. Emile
