Unwanted times
Unexpected betrayals
Gaps that can suck you in, yet…
I wouldn’t jump from one bridge to the other
If I
If I were you.
If you
If you were free
You would walk with no shame
You wouldn’t have to ape your hatred
For fear of being let down
Fear of the vertiginous fall
From the heights of your ego.
If I
As if I could see you
(and I probably can)
an uncomfortable witness
of your oh-so-twisted-mind-dismantled
ashamed, that’s what gives
the appearance
of made-up aplomb
while I long for terrestrial harmony
that I can let out
with no danger,
to benefit all.
But…
Locked up in my heart
I have to keep the treasure
If you
If the murderous you
Could enviously get hold of it
What would be left there, for you?
No ground to stand upon, none
Not even a stone
One that cries
When a man’s chest
Is as empty as a lie.
What good is it
If I
If I sing all of the nuances
Of times so unwanted
Betrayals unexpected
in an empty bed
where cold waves
chill my feet.
Defeated I won’t be
As I
I have learned to jump
From one bridge to another
My fears are only human
And that means I’m brave,
After all.
She wraps the gossamer folds of faith around her, lifts her chin toward Harmony Hills--the far side of the river--and jumps. The silver folds fan out around her, winging her on. She lands pointed-toes on solid ground, and the music plays as she lands--one foot on a blooming purple aster that forgot the winter chill. She looks around, and realizes she's leaped the length of winter into spring. Across the cavernous season, she sees within the naked spanse, a shadow of--a shadow of a man that she once knew.
She settles in the singing grass, and takes a peek inside her locked-up heart. And then, as she cups the cherished treasure in her hands, she sings a lilting harmony...
This one is my new favorite of yours--such imagery! Such power! Such freedom in releasing fear! (I know from personal experience. Terrified of storms, but my StormPoetry and photography has allowed me to FACE that fear. Doesn't mean I want to go tornado chasing, mind you, but it's been a HUGE step forward.) Excellent, saving this one.
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.

Get out now!
Take it from me...with questions like this in your poetry...you need to get out of this situation before you can't.
