High drama on the granite shore,
White waves pound with fury,
Sea birds said with raucous cries,
While winter spits a flurry.
The sky boils gray and turbulent,
Trees sway and twist and bend,
They seem to huddle together for warmth
And protection from the wind.
Blown sideways sleet and snowflakes fly
And stick to moss and bark,
As the powerful beam from a lighthouse
Pierces the encroaching dark.
Above the din of storm and surf
The clang of a buoy bell
Repeats itself with rapidity
As it's rocked by surging swells.
Mother Nature's passion rages supreme,
Unhampered, unchallenged and free,
Intolerant of the meek at heart
As she torments an angry sea.
But safe within my rustic home
I watch the storm unfurl
From my seat beside a crackling fire
Where with a book I'm curled.
