While others sleep
I come to life
And go about the night
In relative silence.
I am comfortable here
With the darkness outside;
My mind is sharp
And my muse is never far
In these early hours
Before the sun rises,
Bringing with it
The many distractions
Of daytime.
I love the night
With its moon and stars,
Or, better yet,
The passion
Of a late night storm.
There is peace here,
And a rare sense
Of belonging.
