Night descends
As a cold rain falls
Upon my roof,
And winter beats at my door
With hearty gusts
Of arctic wind;
But inside
The lights are dim,
The air is warm,
And a fire crackles,
While Kenny G plays soothingly
From the stereo.
It's a cozy night
Tailor-made for couples:

And I'm too restless to read.

But what I want
I can't have:

Spiced with tender, lingering kisses.
Someday nights such as this
Will be ours to share,
Someday, when the time is right;
For now, though,
I rest my head atop a toss pillow
And stare into the fire,
And imagine you here
With me.
