And brimming with hope.

As new beginnings
Appear like green shoots
In the winter-dead remains

When I finally have the surgery
To lose this excess weight?
Will the promise of the months ahead
Bring an end to the loneliness
That has haunted my life so far?
Will the heartache of 2007
Finally fade and be replaced
By peace in 2008?
My faith,
Sometimes strong,
Sometimes brittle,
Stands firm in its resolve
To meet the dawn of my new day
With joy, and I shout:
Thank you, God, for New Years!
